watching the böögg burn & poorly baby again...

monday was a holiday in zurich being the "sächsilüüte". so we were lucky that chris had a day off and we had a long weekend.

sächsilüüte is an old spring festival that occurs in zurich every year on the third monday of april. the rite culminates in the burning of the böögg - a figure of a snowman whose head is filled with firecrackers - symbolizing winter. the faster the böögg's head explodes, the nicer the following summer will be.

this year the head exploded after only 7 minutes and 23 seconds, so our hopes are high for an amazing summer!

traditionally the people take the remains of the stake to bbq right there, but as it was raining and cold we went home and had a bbq with friends there.

this year we even had the possibility to climb up the platform to take a bölfie (selfie with böögg...) :) pea wasn't impressed.

before i brought pea to bed i thought he felt a bit warm. but as he was already asleep i didn't take his temperature. when he woke up in the night i could already tell by his crying that something was wrong. i measured his temperature and he actually had a fever... again... :(

he was exhausted and fell asleep on me all the time,
just to wake up again whenever i tried to move...

the fever was still high today so i took him to the pediatrician.
they checked his blood and luckily it is only viral. so we just treat it with medication and hope it will pass soon. although i'm glad it's nothing worse, i hate pea being poorly and me being so helpless about it!

as pea was very brave when he had his blood taken,
he got this cute finger puppets from the lovely nurse.

    mountain days & muscle spasm

we went up to the mountains for two lovely easter days! we went for long walks in the stunning spring scenery and enjoyed the fresh air and some proper mountain meals...

unfortunately chris and i got pea's cold and felt a bit under the weather...

back home my back suddenly started to ache and by tuesday evening i was literally not able to move anymore! chris took me to the doctor the next day and she told me that it's a muscle spasm and there is not much we can do about it other than taking pain killers. oh and i shouldn't lift anything... easier said than done... fortunately pea is able to crawl by now and chris could arrange to work from home.

since there was not much i could do, i had a long overdue date with my fundamental fold friend... (i postponed the one with the ironing board though...)

pea tried to help me too...

although i feel better now, it is a nightmare not to be able to lift pea! i really wonder how pregnant women do that when having a baby at home...

    happy easter!

happy easter to all of you from our lovely little easter bunny!

    easter brunch

unfortunately pea wasn't feeling well this week and had another ear infection... luckily he felt better today and we decided to treat ourselves to an easter brunch to kick off the long weekend.

of course there were easter presents!

pea got the oh so darling finger puppets i just fell in love with when i saw them! of course the first thing he did was tasting them...

also i could finally use my egg crates i wanted for a long time and finally got from chris's last trip to the us. i filled them with dippy eggs with bunny soldiers and salt in an egg shell...

and easter fairy cakes (not the prettiest ones but rather delicious!)

and of course strawberries... always a good idea!

    beautiful spring day at gotti's

we were very lucky with the spring weather here with summer-like temperatures!

pea's gotti invited us for a sunday afternoon in her garden. she lives where it can be best described as "in a secret hideaway"...! it's breathtakingly pretty and absolutely quiet.

we enjoyed the afternoon sipping lattes, eating rhubarb cake, sitting in the grass and enjoying the beautiful weather... it was like heaven!

very proud of papi & auntie corina's birthday

chris went to belgium to ride 245 km at the tour of flanders with his bike. we had our fingers crossed all the time and also tracked him on the internet. we couldn't be more proud of what he has achieved! well done papi!

we were invited to auntie corina's pre-birthday party which was a lot of fun. pea was doing fine although it was a bit much for him in the beginning. it got better the longer we were there though and finally he even fell asleep in the whole crowd.

i thought it's a good opportunity to go shopping for pea (cause he really doesn't have anything to wear...) and fell in love with this cute jeans with suspenders...

i made a cake and assembled a vintage themed present tray. :)

we also got to meet mia who was born a month ago. she is such a cutie pie and i couldn't believe how tiny she is! seeing the difference to pea with just 8 months in between was quite striking!

    things we love

i realized that this blog will also help me remember what things we loved and made our life easier with pea. and who knows, maybe someone reads that blog wondering what to get pre-baby...

    1. night light - we were lucky to get a "baby box" at the hospital with all kinds of helpful stuff in. one of these was this night light which proved to be the most helpful thing ever. it is battery powered and bright enough to feed the baby in the middle of the night.
    2. mike zebra - i was talking about him before... really helpful with a hurty tummy or just to give some comfort.
    3. night time dummy - it glows in the dark which makes it super easy to find it in the middle of the night.
    4. tripp trapp newborn set - it's just great to have the baby next to you at the table! would really recommend it to everyone!
    5. swaddle blanket - the first one we got as a present (just in case i will ever forget: i was overwhelmed with how generous everyone was! we got cards and presents from so many people when pea was born.) and i instantly fell in love. it can be used for so many things and pea loves it!
    6. bottle heater - another thing we thought we will never need... we thought wrong. saves us so much time heating bottles and purées.
    7. nappy disposal system - yes, nappies stink. there's not much more to say but this system really helps to keep the nursery smelling nice and clean.
